BRIEF Reports
We bring the work that we have done in Northern Ontario to Southern Ontario. As we hear from parents, educators, and the media, the wait time to get an assessment through the schools can take as long as 2 years. One of the reasons for this is that an average psychoeducational assessment takes 6 to 8 hours to complete. From the work up North we have shown that you can get the same information in about 2.5 to 3 hours. This new assessment protocol has the ability to significantly reduce wait times.
psychology clinic
The OISE Psychology Clinic provides psychological assessment and psychotherapy services to children and adolescents for emotional, social, and academic concerns. Services are provided by graduate students under the supervision of psychologists who are members of the College of Psychologists of Ontario. The clinic provides a wonderful opportunity to advance the training of our students, while at the same time provide a useful service to the community around us. Community members, including those who are affiliated with the University of Toronto.
Many students of the University of Toronto who have learning challenges seek these services to help manage the stresses they deal with on a day-to-day basis studying within a competitive academic environment. The knowledge gained through research and other endeavors of the Academic Intervention Lab then provides the opportunities to deliver cutting edge services to our clients. Clinicians are able to pass on this new knowledge to the next generation of practitioners, due to the educational opportunities on offer to our trainees. In addition, we are also able to offer subsidized assessment rates. We are always looking for opportunities to find new sources of funding to provide more and more subsidies to families in need.
